Kelly Slater on his menswear brand, Outerknown, and sustainability

Many will know Kelly Slater as the 11x World Surf League Champion. Now retired, the surfer has made it his life’s mission to do his bit for the oceans and runs his own menswear clothing label, Outerknown, alongside designer John Moore, championing sustainable materials.

Outerknown’s clothing line includes trunks and jackets made from recycled fishing nets and other nylon waste.

Kelly Slater and John Moore say: “Outerknown was born on questioning and challenging the norms of clothing manufacturing.

“We created Outerknown to smash the formula. To lift the lid on the traditional supply chain and prove you can actually produce great looking menswear in a sustainable way.”
