MAFIA: Unique backpacks made from re-used sails

Mafia BagsLooking for a unique yet durable backpack for school or work? Check out MAFIA’s range of bags made using a combination of ripstop nylon from re-used sails and dacron from re-used sail boat and windsurf sails.

No two style of bags are the same and each has a unique ID. The Sail Pack, the smallest of MAFIA’s range, is a great day bag and is ultralight and water-resistant. Given that they are made from re-used sails, the materials are bright and bold in colour.

MAFIA was first started by brother and sister duo, Marcos and Paz Mafia, and a group of friends who went in pursuit of finding the perfect bag to carry their wetsuits in. Former professional kitesurfer, Marcos Mafia was struck by the piles of sturdy, colourful sails stashed away untouched in storage facilities and went about repurposing them into versatile bags. MAFIA grew quickly through word of mouth.

mafia bagsMAFIA say: “Sustainability has always been second nature to Mafia through our use of reclaimed sails, and has connected us to the wider like-minded community such as B-Corporation, of which we have been members since 2013.

“We are also dedicated to the community in which we live, employing local people to cut and sew each bag here in California.

“When you get a Mafia bag, you’re also getting a piece of the ocean, supporting local community & sustainable practices.”

MAFIA also encourage companies to donate their sails via the company’s website.
