Drone footage is one of the ways in which we can bring the world into our homes, and professional aerial cinematographer, Karim Iliya, has captured the world by drone not only for our visual pleasure but to “create appreciation in order to help protect our delicate ecosystems on Earth”.
Highlighting the world’s natural beauty and landscapes, Pachamama: The World by Drone, is a stunning, awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping view of the world, captured by Karim Iliya using drones. The short film captures the compassion, unconditional love, beauty, fertility and essence of Gaia and what belongs to her.
The video, filmed entirely with drones by Karim Iliya, spans 14 countries across the world, in all four seasons, which was shot over the course of one-and-a-half years.
The Maui-based photographer has a passion for documenting whales, elephants, big cats, polar bears and other threatened animals.
The immensely talented photographer and cinematographer captures life on this reality in a way that very few do and are able to capture on lens.
Karim Iliya says: “I’ve always been a curious person, so I would get down low on the ground and look at a bug or a mushroom and get eye level with it.
“For me it’s about seeing things. What inspires me is the beauty within nature.
“The camera is just a machine. I use the machine to see the world, to show other people how I view existence.
“You can capture moments and instances in time that is normally too quick for your eyes to process and register.
“My mission is to give an accurate representation of what I see.”
Karim Iliya was recently in Sri Lanka where he was giving a drone workshop training session to the Sri Lankan Wildlife Conservation Society. The purpose of the workshop was to train the conservation workers to use fly drones to mitigate conflict between elephants and humans, as well as filming in a way so as not to disturb the animals. He posted the above photo, showing two male elephants slowly making their way back into the hills, on his Facebook page.
