Sustainable swimwear for curvy women

Sustainable swimwear, made from materials including ocean plastic waste is becoming readily available. If you are curvy however, you have to go that extra mile to find sustainable swimwear, sustainable lingerie even, that will support your feminine curves.

There are a few eco-friendly brands that do, albeit limited in their size range, cater for curvy women. Below are some eco-friendly swimwear brands that cater for curvy women, although be aware that many of the fashion brands’ definition of “curvy” is often questionable.

Koru Swimwear

Eco-friendly swimwear brand, Koru Swimwear, has teamed up with Australian “curvy model” and environmental scientist, Laura Wells, to create a sporty and stylish range of swimwear separates including bikini tops, bottoms and surf pants.

The swimwear fabric has the same qualities as the rest of the Koru Swimwear line which is made from recycled nylon derived from post-consumer items such as discarded fishing nets and carpet fluff bound for landfills. The fabric also provides UV 50+ protection, and is ultra-chlorine and saltwater resistant. For each sale of Koru Swimwear’s Laura Wells Signature Collection, $5 is donated to Cook Islands Whale Research.

Swimsuits for All

Swimsuits for All is by far the best swimwear brand catering for curvy women and plus size women, with classic and on-trend swimsuits and separates, from a US size 4-34.

Swimsuits for All are not a sustainable brand as such but it’s worth checking out as they have previously launched collections made from recycled, eco-friendly fabrics. In 2015, they teamed up with Australian model Laura Wells to launch the Laura Wells for Swim Sexy Eco-Friendly Swimsuits made from 100% recycled fabrics.

Sydney-based Emobi sell a range of glamorous one-piece suits and bikini sets, in a stunning range of colours, prints and frills. Although limited, some of their swimwear goes up to a DD size.

All swimwear is designed locally in Sydney using a range of environmentally friendly water based dyes, to minimise the impact on the beaches and waterways.
