Ocean Discovery Institute: Encouraging tomorrow’s Ocean leaders

Ocean Discovery Institute is using the ocean as a science classroom to empower young people to transform their lives, their community and the planet as scientific and conservation leaders.

The San Diego-based Ocean Discovery Institute uses ocean science to teach young people from underserved urban communities science education.

Ocean Discovery currently serves 6,000 young people a year from City Heights, providing them with tuition-free, hands-on science and conservation.

The organisation offers classroom activities, field experiences and community projects. The idea is to help people fall in love with science, and in that become more aware and conscious of preserving and supporting the planet and its resources.

In September, Ocean Discovery Institute will open The Living Lab – a science education facility for young people, families, and community members – in San Diego.
