Palm oil is all over the shop quite literally, now the Sustainable Palm Oil Shopping App helps shoppers to shop with confidence knowing that no harm is done to the planet or wild orangutans.
Sustainable Palm Oil Shopping App, produced by Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, provides Colorado residents with the information they need to check if a product is “orangutan friendly” and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil-certified.
The App was developed to help people make responsible, sustainable conservation choices to support wildlife and wild places.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo say: “[We want] to make a difference for wild orangutans by raising awareness about the palm oil crisis and encouraging people to take action by providing tools and information that will allow them to make globally responsible consumer choices.”
Sustainable Palm Oil Shopping App’s database contains more than 5,000 products from 100s of consumer product manufacturers. It features a key code which rates the products on whether the use of sustainable palm oil is “excellent”, “good” or “needs improvement”.
The app, which is available for free on android, iPhone and iPad, can be used to select alternative products to those which are not certified by searching for a product type or ingredient.
The app, which was launched by Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, earlier this year also provides key information on palm oil and preservation of the planet.
Sustainable Palm Oil Shopping App is available from the App Store and Google Play
