Gentlewasher, a washing machine that runs without electricity, has become a household reality.
Heralded as the most sustainable washing device in the world, Gentlewasher is a portable device, at just 24 lbs (11 kg), suited for medium and small loads of delicate clothes.
Gentlewasher, developed by startup Monono, has been designed to make washing fast, easy, sustainable and hassle-free.
The hand-operated washing machine takes just five minutes for a 6 lbs (3kg) load or 12 t-shirts. Monono claim the device requires less water because the water is utilised more effectively, and the water and detergent is mixed more effectively with the clothes.
Monono founders, Coen Vermeer and Kathak Mehta, say: “We [Monono] love to create things. Not just random things though. Physical products, that actually solve a problem.”
Gentlewasher is currently available in the US and Canada, priced $299.
