retyred ORIGINAL: Tyres find a second life as homewares and garden furniture

retyred ORIGINAL are turning used tyres in to elegant and durable outdoor furniture, garden pots, trunks, mirrors and more.

Using 100% recycled tyres, retyred ORIGINAL make their collection of furniture and homewares from a combination of recycled truck, car, motorbike and bicycle tyres.

Among the retyred ORIGINAL’s collection are table and chair sets for outdoor use, beautiful baskets and garden pots. The tyre treads add ornate decoration to each item.

Just like plastic, tyres take a long time to decompose – 30,000 years to be precise. Tyres are amongst the most difficult items to recycle. They’re normally made of a mixture of steel, textile and rubber, often having traces of oil and other chemicals present.

The best policy for finding a second life for tyres when they’re no longer usable for a vehicle is to reuse them as they are, according to retyred ORIGINAL.

retyred ORIGINAL founders Monica Corser and Bernhard Kudernatsch say: “It is not Recycling. Also not Upcycling. Retyred ORIGINAL is something new made of something with experience. Something great made of used materials. We at retyred ORIGINAL see the great potential in things others don´t need any more. So somehow retyred ORIGINAL is a bit like reincarnation. Reincarnation to an even better life than before.”

The natural attributes of the rubber lends itself well to comfortable, durable, and attractive furniture, meaning that retyred ORIGINAL’s pieces are likely to be passed down over the generations.
