Gotham Greens: Greening up urban rooftops with sustainable leafy greens

Gotham Greens has transformed unused rooftops in New York and Chicago into lush, year-round urban greenhouse farms selling sustainable, local produce to locals.

The Brooklyn-born business provide premium quality, pesticide-free produce grown under the highest standards of food safety and environmental sustainability.

Gotham Greens, which now operates four facilities in both New York City and Chicago opened their biggest venture to date in the Pullman neighbourhood of Chicago in 2015. The 75,000-square-foot greenhouse garden, powered by renewable energy, sits on top of a Method Products manufacturing plant. The facility represents the world’s largest and most productive rooftop farm.

Gotham Greens’ Chicago-based facility annually grows up to 10 million heads of leafy greens and herbs, year-round, for retailers, restaurants and farmer’s markets across the greater Chicago area.

Since the greens are grown locally, it eliminates the carbon emissions and miles that food traditionally travels to get to Chicago’s plates.
