Legendary breakdancer, Crazy Legs of the Rock Steady Crew has launched a fundraising campaign to support on-the-ground efforts to get clean water to people in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
The New York-born Puerto Rican has teamed up with Waves for Water, Red Bull and fellow Puerto Ricans to get much-needed water filtration and purification systems to areas of the island that have been harder to get to.
The island is without electricity and running water, and major flooding has left people’s homes completely uninhabitable.
Richard Colón, otherwise known as Crazy Legs, has currently raised over $99,490 via Gofundme. The campaign, known as Rocky Steady for Life, has a target of $100,000.
The funds are supporting Waves For Water and their ongoing efforts to get clean water to people.
Funds from the Rocky Steady for Life campaign are also being used by a local youth centre, the Boys & Girls Club of Isabela, to get shelter, food and other necessities to people who’ve lost everything.
The Rock Steady Crew B-Boy, who is involved in community outreach, dance instruction and dance theatre productions in his native New York, is also partnering with MPOWERD to bring 3,000 solar-powered Luci Lights to Puerto Rico.
