Little Sun: Take the sun wherever you go with this mini solar lamp

Have the sun accompany you wherever you go with the Little Sun powered LED lamp.

The iconic high-quality portable solar lamp, made from recyclable ABS and a solar panel, feature a sun shape with its bright rays protruding like petals of a flower.

The Little Sun powered LED Lamp is the perfect introduction to personal solar-powered light – you can use it for camping, festivals, at the beach, or for brightening your home, garden, or balcony. It also makes a great Christmas stocking filler gift for kids who can use it as a nightlight or for playtime, whilst teaching them about sustainable living.

Little Sun also comes with a detachable strap, allowing it to be hung from your neck, hooks, backpack, or a tree – or you can remove the strap and use it as a table lamp. A little booklet also provides information about sustainable living.

Designed by artist Olafur Eliasson, the Little Sun powered LED lamp features a dimmer with two light levels. Around five hours of charging in the sun produces 10 hours of soft light or four hours of bright light.

A portion of every purchase goes towards bringing light to some of the 1.6 billion people in the world without electricity. By delivering business starter kits and micro-entrepreneurial training to local off-grid entrepreneurs, Little Sun builds up sustainable structures which not only deliver affordable solar lamps to people with no electricity, but also generates local profits, creates local jobs, and reduces the substantial environmental impact and costs associated with using kerosene lamps.

Little Sun was founded by artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen in 2012. What started as a humble idea to create a small, portable solar lamp for people without electricity in Ethiopia is now a global project that has changed over a million lives through the awesome power of the sun.

Olafur Eliasson said: “Solar power is holding hands with the sun, and we believe that holding hands with the sun is holding hands with the future. We see solar as one solution to a cleaner planet and a way to achieve global energy access for all. Solar is on track to becoming the cheapest form of sustainable energy within the next few years, making it also the most economically accessible form of energy for everyone.

“We strengthen communities from the inside by creating local jobs and generating local profits through our local partners and network of young, African entrepreneurs.

“Little Suns are sold at a higher price in areas of the world with electricity so that our products can be sold in off-grid areas at much lower, locally affordable prices.”

Little Sun can be purchased online from the Little Sun shop.
