Be: The first battery-free, powered and sustainable toothbrush

Those who own an electronic toothbrush and have been searching for replacement heads that are sustainable and biodegradable may have found their search burned out almost as soon as it had started.

With Be (Beyond Electric), a new eco-friendly and sustainable toothbrush by The Goodwell Company, not only is that set to change the lack of biodegradable toothbrush heads, it takes it steps further.

The first battery-free, powered toothbrush, Be is a toothbrush with vibrating bristles powered via a built in kinetic storage device.  Just two simple twists of the bottom of the brush and the movement begins.

The heads of the brush, which are 100% biodegradable and recyclable, are made from Binchotan charcoal-infused bristles, offering up to 80,000 brushstrokes to clean the teeth surfaces and along the gumline.

When using the Be brush you use it just like you would a manual toothbrush, the difference being you get the boost and benefit from the moving bristles.

Be is made from 90% post-consumer material and is 100% recyclable, biodegradable. The Goodwell Company, who have been making eco-friendly dental products since 2014, has developed a proprietary material made of starches and bamboo that is 100% biodegradable and compostable. This material is used in all of it’s premium brush heads, which are engineered to be as small and as efficient as possible.

In a hugely successful funding campaign launched via Kickstarter, The Goodwell Company raised $423,143 in funding, surpassing the $30,000 target. Be is currently available to purchase online from Indiegogo.

The Goodwell Company was created to offer a sustainable alternative to the plastic toothbrushes that are sold by the billions every year and go un-recycled only to end up in landfills. It aims to create 100% natural, sustainable products, systems and technologies that “raise environmental awareness and empower people to make choices that help protect and preserve the planet today”.

Those wanting to get their hands on a Be toothbrush will have to wait a little longer, as the products are expected to be available from December this year.
