Metalworker Josh Hadar’s solar-powered bikes making sustainable design “sexy”

Metalworker and designer Josh Hadar is on a mission to make eco-conscious and sustainable design “a little more sexy” with his head-turning solar-powered bikes.

The intricate bikes, made using metal and glass, may not be eye-catching for the fact that they run on 100% sustainable electricity, but for those who look at the bigger picture and beyond the transportation’s sculptural splendours, there is something even more unique in the product design.

Combining respect for the planet with a love of good design, New Yorker Josh Hadar said: “It’s the design that generates the interest, not necessarily the fact that it’s eco. The idea is to start taking things off the main power grid and using sustainable solar or wind power wherever possible.  If we could take commuter transportation (20-30 miles round trip) off the grid, that would be incredible. It’s a goal of mine.

“With the planet’s resources quickly drying up, I just want to try and do my part to leave a cleaner planet for my kids.”
