Reclaiming Coal Country: Organic farms rise where abandoned mines once lay in the US

Refresh Appalachia, a project of Coalfield Development, provides opportunities to former coal miners in agriculture, entrepreneurship, renewable energy and other areas.

It one of a number of organisations helping coal communities in the US make the transition to cleaner energy.

In the below video, West Virginian Chris Farley, who once worked in the coal mines, explains how he is now part of a movement of farmers that’s helping rebuild the land.
