Mammal Mapper app contributing to conservation action

Mammal Mapper, an app created by the Mammal Society, is helping the UK to address the issue of poorly monitored wild mammals including rabbits, hedgehogs and mountain hares.

The Mammal Mapper is designed to record information on the location and number of animals spotted on walks or bicycle rides.

Users of the Mammal Mapper can record sightings of any mammal, including field signs such as burrows and mole-hills as well as live animals.

The app – which is available for free for iPhone, iPad and Android – includes detailed guides to help identify animals by their appearance and is easy to use.

Mammal Mapper allows the absence of species to be deduced.

Information gathered by Mammal Mapper is critical to the calculation of animal densities and will contribute directly to conservation action.
