Celebrations on the longest day of the year, otherwise known as the Summer Solstice, kick off with a day of free music events.
Make Music Day is an annual worldwide celebration with free music events taking place in venues and public spaces – from shops to libraries, bandstands to town squares and train stations. Around 120 countries are taking part in this year’s event.
Among the events happening in the UK include X-Posé, a club night at London’s Fabric featuring an eclectic mix of deaf and female DJs. Presented by Deaf Rave and The Midi Music Company, special guests on the night include MOBO Help Musicians Fund Award Winner, SignKid, who will be performing.
SignKid is a London-based designer, writer and Sign Song Hip Hop artist. The artist, who released his debut EP Music is the Message, has recently been testing out vibrotactile equipment through his collaboration with Musical Vibrations, a new project aimed at deaf young people.
