The Green House is a new green hub – built on eco-friendly, sustainable and circular principles – that houses a restaurant, urban farm and meeting centre in the Netherlands.
Currently located in Utrecht, The Green House pavilion has been designed with modular components, so that it is demountable and can be easily moved. The Green House will temporarily be based in Utrecht for 15 years, after which it will find a new home.
Aiming to operate as circular as possible, the pavilion is made from recycled materials wherever possible. The first floor, which houses the meeting rooms and the vertical farming greenhouse, was constructed from prefabricated and recyclable timber elements.
The roof of the pavilion is sheathed in a lightweight and perforated steel sheet filled with insulation and topped with solar panels. The glass curtain wall lets in plenty of natural light so that artificial lighting is minimised.
The ground floor restaurant serves up fresh, local and sustainable dishes using ingredients grown in the on site urban farm as well as from local producers.
The Green House also plays host to events where visitors can find out more about recycling, learning to work without waste, and circular furnishing.
