Fashion brand Know The Origin are introducing commuters, passers by and shoppers to sustainable fashion at their pop-up store at Old Street Station in East London.
The pop-up store showcases 30 womenswear and menswear labels with a focus on style, transparency and ethics. The sustainable fashion labels stocked at the store include A.BCH, Good Studios, HARA the Label, Project Pico and Starlong Project, among others. For each brand in store, offering fashion basics that are sustainable, shoppers will be able to see where the products are made, their ethos, impact on the environment and on people.
Know The Origin is a fashion brand with the mission to create a new standard that values people, the environment and transparency equally – just as it should be.
The label came about when Know The Origin founder Charlotte Instone was studying at London College of Fashion at the time Rana Plaza factory collapsed in Bangladesh. The Buying and Merchandising student was so moved by the event, the deadliest garment factory accident in history, that she not only questioned the way the fashion industry works, but also questioned her own perception and beliefs.
Feeling a huge disconnect between garments and the people making them Charlotte Instone decided to find out for herself how Rana Plaza affected the survivors and the fashion industry. After returning she felt like the world was missing out on great stories.
Determined to make a difference to the people making garments Charlotte Instone founded Know The Origin and Certified by Know The Origin (a sister company that wholesales customisable screen printed garments) enabling customers to buy sustainable fashion at affordable prices. Selling direct to the consumer means that Know The Origin can make sustainable garments both accessible and attainable.
Charlotte Instone has partnered with purpose led producers in India, that operate under Fairtrade and Organic principles, to create value and respect to people “who in this [fashion] industry are often pushed to the margins”.
Know The origin’s pop-up store will also be running events including talks around ethical and sustainable living, panel evenings addressing Modern Slavery and Ocean Plastics, and a chance to meet the faces behind sustainable brands.
Know The Origin’s pop-up store will be open at Old Street Station, London E1Y 1BE until 25 August.
