It’s one of the most iconic set of two wheels there is, and now the Vespa is set to go electric as it launches it’s first electric scooter next month.
Vespa Elettrica, which goes on sale in Europe in October, will produce between 2kW to 4kW of power, according to Vespa manufacturers Piaggio. The company also claims that the electric scooter will give more power than on a standard 50cc scooter.
Vespa Elettrica’s battery can be fully charged in just four hours making it ideal for use in a city.
A hybrid version, the Elettrica X, will also be available spanning a greater total range of 124 miles but a smaller life – with power for 31 miles offset by a gas-powered generator that kicks in when battery levels get low.
The environmentally friendly scooters look like their standard Vespa counterparts apart from the addition of a coloured trim, which buyers will be able to customise, choosing from seven different colours including electric blue.
Vespa Elettrica and Vespa Elettrica X is expected to go on sale in the US and Asia to follow in early 2019.
