Pulsar Moonlight: Astrophysicist creates space lamps from recycled garden globes

Astrophysicist Maria Elena has reimagined the universe to create beautiful moon and planet lamps made from recycled outdoor/garden globes.

The lamps are handpainted by using scientific pictures as a reference to ensure that the craters and depressions are as close to the real thing as possible. NASA often releases new images of the moon and planets, so the Rome-based astrophysicist has to study them and change her paintings according to new discoveries. Therefore, each globe, which is painted using non-toxic paint, is truly unique.

Maria Elena initially started her space lamps project to raise money for animal charities. Her space lamps now include the moon and the sun, as well as planets – Earth, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, Mars and Mercury.

The space lamps can be purchased via Maria Elena’s Etsy shop, Pulsar Moonlight.
