If getting your kids to take herbal medicine can be challenging, Amborella Organics’ have created a fun and innovative way for kids to both consume herbs and enjoy planting herbs with their range of organic lollipops – which once eaten, the biodegradable stick can be planted in soil and will grow a herb or flower.
The seed-bearing lollipops, which are both kid and adult friendly, contain extracts of strawberry, basil, champagne, roses peach, marigold, vanilla, hibiscus, rosemary, mint, sage, marshmallow, lemon and thyme.
Each lollipop comes on a biodegradable stick made from recycled paper, and the paper has seeds inside it. When the treat’s done, the stick can be placed directly into soil and will grow a plant. The Champagne & Roses lollipop will grow Rosetta Cosmos. Rosemary & Mint lollipops grow mint, Watermelon & Borage grows borage, and Lemon & Thyme grows thyme, Peach & Marigold grows marigolds, Sage & Marshmallow grows sage, and Lavender & Lemongrass pops grow lavender. The Vanilla & Hibiscus, though, does not grow hibiscus, but Baby Blue Eyes flowers.
The brainchild of friends and co-founders Brennan Clarke and Taylor Morgan, Amborella Organics was set up in 2016 with the idea of planting seeds inside a lollipop stick.
In an interview with Food & Wine, Brennan Clarke said: “I was inspired by the inherent resemblance between a lollipop and a flower and wanted to create a delicious, organic treat that would make even the most disinterested youth interested in this experience.”
Amborella Organics say: “While we are proud to offer treats that are both kid-friendly and adult approved, a seed-bearing lollipops is about forming a relationship with nature and sharing this experience with those you love. We believe nature is the greatest medicine and most enlightened teacher.
“Before launching our company, we foraged flowers and herbs to shape our logo, sourced turmeric and carrot natural dyes to give our lollipops their vivid hue, and as a nod to nature named our company after the first flower to move from water to land. Today we learn from farmers who remind us how important the soil beneath our feet is.”
Amborella Organics lollipops are available online from Amborella Organics.
