Eco-friendly beauty brand, Rahua by Amazon Beauty has taken to animation to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire consumers to take better care of our planet.
The animation, entitled Green Utopia, is a magical story of how two women of different cultures unite for the better good of our planet. It focuses on two characters – Alice from the highly commercialised New York City, and Nina, from the depths of nature in the Amazon Rainforest.
Alice is triggered by an awareness of over-consumption and Nina is saddened by seeing the destruction and pollution in her natural waters. Through a dream-like revelation, Alice recognises the connection between water and life and an awareness of how the planet relies on nature to go on living. It is here that Alice and Nina bond a sisterhood and together hero their power to make a difference – bringing awareness to environmental issues including disruption of the eco-system and pollution.
With Green Utopia, Rahua by Amazon Beauty emphasises the importance of interconnectedness – setting out to show that although people may live different lives and come from different cultures, when people work together to educate each other they can create the path for a symbiotic relationship with nature.
Fabian Lliguin, President of Rahua by Amazon Beauty said: “Every single object we use, and discard, is taking away from nature; these objects destroy nature in one way or another. We can make a difference if we are conscious, thoughtful and purposeful about what products we buy and how we use them. With our buying power, we can choose to support eco-friendly businesses, ultimately giving power to green companies whose mission is to reduce waste and carbon footprint, ultimately nurturing the planet for future generations.”
Rahua Oil is extracted today in the same method done for centuries, through an ancestral, ceremonial, hand-harvested process by the indigenous women of the Quechua-Shuar tribes that include guidelines such as fasting, no salt and specific humidity level.
Rahua by Amazon Beauty came about when Fabian Lliguin, a renowned hairstylist and colourist in New York City was visiting the Amazon rainforest as an environmentalist, educating indigenous people about their land rights and human rights when he realised he was surrounded by women with long, lustrous hair hair – the secret to their healthy hair being Rahua Oil.
The brand’s signature product, Rahua Legendary Amazon Oil, combines ingredients of Rahua, Sacha Inchi, and Morete oils harvested in the Amazon to create a hair oil that revitalises hair and promotes shine.
Today, more than 500 families from the Quechua-Shuar, Achuar, and neighbouring tribes work with Fabian Lliguin and his wife, Anna Ayers to cultivate the rainforest grown ingredients used in the Rahua hair care and body care collections.
Fabian Lliguin, who grew up in a small port city in Ecuador teeming with natural life, has travelled regularly to the Amazon Rainforest where he saw firsthand the destruction wrought by petroleum companies. Working in tandem with local tribes, he worked to support indigenous people by bringing in computers and establishing courses in English and computer and financial literacy.
He said: “The people who live in the rainforest have protected it for thousands of years. If we strengthen and support them, they will stay and preserve it forever.
“We created the Rahua brand to preserve and honour unique cultural rituals and traditional, sustainable ways of life that protect the rainforest and its people.”
