Buurman: Giving reclaimed hardware materials a second life through its stores and workshops

Netherlands-based store Buurman is giving hardware materials – everything from insulation materials, construction wood, stage sets or vintage doors – a second life.

The reclaimed materials are scouted at building sites, museums or other local projects and sold at Buurman’s two stores in Rotterdam and Utrecht.

A haven for people who enjoy DIY, Buurman’s stores also offer workshops, as well as space for people to rent a table and work on their own project.

The aim is to inspire people to make things themselves with recycled materials.

The team behind Buurman founded the store in 2015 as an alternative to landfilling, incineration or low quality reuse of “waste materials”.
