Buffy Breeze: 100% plant-based duvet made from eucalyptus pulp, which is fully biodegradable

Sustainable bedding startup Buffy has launched a comforter made entirely of eucalyptus pulp, which is fully biodegradable.

The Breeze comforter uses the natural eucalyptus wood pulp for its case, stuffing and threading. This 100% plant-based offering also means it uses no animal products, so is vegan-friendly.

The duvet, which ranges in price from $170 for a Twin size through to $250 for King size, is designed to be soft and breathable but also to regulate temperature, resulting in a comfortable sleep. The Breeze has a wavy stitched pattern, rather than a traditional grid pattern, which Buffy says helps keep the fill in place.

Eucalyptus consumes up to 10 times less water than cotton, and Buffy has helped conserve over 100 million gallons of water to date while producing its comforters.

During its first week of launch, Buffy said it would plant a tree for every Breeze comforter sold, in partnership with non-profit conservancy group American Forests.

Buffy was founded in 2017 by the New York-based Leo Wang, whose family has been producing textiles in China for decades.

Buffy launched with the Cloud comforter, which combines eucalyptus fibre with an inner made from recycled plastic bottles. Breeze is its second product, but is the first fully plant-based design.
