“Novice gardener” rips up grass lawn to create wildflower meadow

Self-proclaimed “novice gardener” Peter Thain has made his garden dreams a reality by transforming his front lawn into a beautiful meadow.

Peter Thain, otherwise known as The Evening Gardener, was insistent on turning his front lawn into a haven for bees and wildlife, ripping up the grass lawn and sowing wildflower seeds in the process.

The physiotherapist and lecturer, based in Cheltenham, has been posting pictures of his picturesque meadow on social media via Twitter and Instagram since June, and has been inundated with messages from fans worldwide.

He said: “So I decided to rip up the front lawn and plant a meadow. The neighbours think I’m nuts, but it’s finally coming to life.”

Over the summer months, the meadow has been home to a stunning array of bright and delightful wildflowers including poppies, echinacea, coreopsis and rudbeckias.
