Unmasked: Make-up artist Emmy Burbridge investigates what beauty products are doing to the planet in BBC Stories documentary

Make-up artist, Emmy Burbridge, has noticed more and more people who come into her Somerset-based salon asking about where their make-up comes from – the likes of “is it cruelty free?” and “does it contain palm oil?”.

Palm oil is often the ingredient that makes lipstick glossy and foundation smooth. Palm oil is in 70% of beauty products – and some people say it should be banned.

In a BBC Stories short documentary, entitled Unmasked: Make-up’s Big Secret, 28-year-old Emmy Burbidge travels to Papua New Guinea to see where palm oil comes from, and to find out what beauty products are doing to the planet. She discovers there is much more to the palm oil industry than meets the eye. You can view the documentary below.
