Seed Gathering Season: Campaign encourages people to gather seeds and grow trees of the future

The Tree Council is encouraging people to get out into local woodland and start gathering up seeds, fruits and nuts and grow the trees of the future.

The festival starts each year on the 23rd September, the Autumn Equinox, and continues until the 23rd October, giving volunteer Tree Wardens and member organisations time to host events across local communities.

Growing trees from local seed can have great benefits in restocking areas with trees of local provenance. The concept of local provenance suggests that trees that are adapted to the local circumstances are more likely to flourish and so help restore, conserve and beautify local urban and rural spaces. Collecting seeds and growing trees is also a great way to get children involved and start growing the next generation of tree enthusiasts.

The Tree Council has been organising Seed Gathering Season, the autumn campaign to inspire everyone to gather seeds, fruits and nuts and grow the trees of the future since 1998.
