Animal Symbolism: Tiger

The tiger – with her adventurous spirit – roams the jungle with fluidity, grace, and majestic charm.

Strikingly beautiful with her stripes, the tiger is the epitome of personal power, strength, courage, passion, sensuality, independence, determination, and perseverance.

The tiger’s stripes, which are unique to each and every tiger, like the zebra are symbolic of uniqueness and individuality. Tigers embrace their individuality. Just as a tiger does not hide its stripes, tiger energy urges one to be who they were born to be and to own their uniqueness.

Those with tiger energy have a strong connection with the water element. Unlike many other large cats, Tigers love the water and readily enter water to cool themselves and in the pursuit of prey. They are powerful swimmers and capable of traversing lakes and rivers.

Night hunters

Tiger’s most efficient work is done at night when they hunt. They have a strong connection with the night sky and are associated with the New Moon. They silently move in a slow and careful way. Tigers assert and maintain their control over their territories by continuously patrolling them. The tiger is a very patient animal. They have strong intuitive awareness that guides them on when to make the move or when to lie low and wait and in the end, achieve success.

Procrastination is not in a tiger’s psyche. If something has to be done, it is done there and then. A person with tiger energy will stop at nothing if they set their mind on a target. They will not back down from a fight neither will they give up at all. Symbolic of courage and fearlessness, those with tiger energy always stand their ground no matter what.

Adventurous spirit

Those with tiger energy are very sensual, and are also devoted parents. Wth a strong sensitivity to touch, tiger energy comes with great healing powers.

A naturally adventurous animal, those with tiger energy have strong creative abilities and their passion drives them to seek new adventures. The tiger possesses great energy, self-control, discipline and perserverance in whatever they put their heart behind, which inevitably leads to success. Wherever there’s a tiger “about”, new adventures abound and for those working on creative endeavours will experience passion and power stir within.

Potent symbol across Asia

The tiger is a symbol for power and energy all over the world, and is a potent symbol across Asia especially where tigers are native to Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and India. In Eastern cultures, the tiger symbol is associated with power, passion, ferocity and sensuality. In addition to these it represents beauty and speed, as well as wrath, and its appearance in a dream is usually a sign of new power or passion that has awakened within an individual.

The Chinese have images of tiger in their charms when casting away evil spirits.

In Japanese culture, tigers are associated with one of the most important concepts for Japanese people, the concept of the Warrior.

Aware of their power, tigers rule the spiritual world just as they rule over the jungle. In China, tigers are revered for their power and spiritual significance. And in Native American shamanism, tigers were considered supernatural beings that roam through “spiritual woodlands”. Tigers spend some time in solitude, which is how they recharge.

Freedom of speech

Tigers also symbolise freedom of speech and directness. Naturally those with tiger energy possess great communication skills and express some of their talents in all sorts of performing arts.

The sound waves produced by a tiger’s roar can actually temporarily paralyse animals and humans. The wisdom pertained by the tiger here urges one to be conscious of the power of their words, and to choose their words wisely.

Universally, the tiger is a symbol of power and strength and while the tiger is symbolic of creativity it can also be a power of destruction.

Ways to connect with tiger energy

For anyone who resonates with the tiger or is wanting to work with the energies of the tiger to give rise to their own personal power, strength, courage, passion, sensuality, independence, determination, perseverance, creativity, find their voice or any other of the attributes associated with the tiger, one of the easiest ways to do so is by carrying a Tiger’s Eye stone.

Other ways of getting in touch with tiger energy include wearing stripes (a tiger print accessory or even a stripy top), watching Bruce Lee films, getting creative and sewing a tiger patch onto a bag you use daily such as a shopping tote, or purchasing tiger charms.
