Electronic snowmobiles, eSleds, helping visitors to experience Finnish Lapland the zero-emission and silent way

Travellers to Finnish Lapland wanting to make their adventure as sustainable as possible can now experience the snowy landscape the zero-emission way via electronic snowmobile thanks to Aurora eMotion.

Aurora eMotion, the first and only electric snowmobile safari provider in the world, operates safaris in Finnish Lapland on emission-free and silent eSleds without without disturbing the silent peace of wintry nature and with no harm to the surrounding environment and wildlife.

Private and easy-to-access trails take in the beautiful and varied landscape including lake scenery, rugged hillsides, old pine forests, and marshlands.

The safaris, which are organised on demand, start from Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos’ site near the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, Finland and last usually from 2-3 hours. The eSleds can travel around 15 to 25km on battery power alone.

The eSleds, which are manufactured by Aurora eMotion’s sister company Aurora Powertrains, feature wide tracks and agile front skis for precise control, as well as regenerative braking to help handle any downhill runs.

Four local engineers began working on developing the eSled in 2010 and Aurora Powertrains launched the eSleds in 2017. eAurora eMotion’s eSled fleet has since grown to 25 snowmobiles.
