Recipe: Ginger Beer

Ginger Beer is a refreshing, zingy drink that is a perfect thirst quencher as we move towards the warmer months, and it’s great for digestion.

Making your own Ginger Beer from scratch is easy, although it does take weeks to ferment as with any fermented product, you will need to create a starter. In the case of ginger, the starter is known as a “ginger bug”, which is a slurry of fresh ginger, sugar and water that has been allowed to ferment until bubbly and foamy.

Brewers use the bug to brew probiotic tonics and drinks like root beer, ginger beer or probiotic lemonade.
