Insider Art relief fund campaign launches to aid female comic book retailers

A new relief fund campaign to aid female comic book retailers impacted by COVID-19 has launched.

Female comic book retailers and creatives have joined forces to create the Insider Art project, which will be raising money for the Female & Non-Binary Comic Book Retailer Relief Fund by publishing a digital comics anthology, launching a fabric, and through auctions of exclusive artwork, signed prints and various collectibles.

The Insider Art digital comic book anthology, which is expected to be released in June via Gumroad, will feature everything from original artwork and short stories to recipes and comic book history.

The 200-page Insider Art anthology is created by writers and artists including Gail Simone, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Vita Ayala, Tini Howard, Chynna Clugston Flores, Magdalene Visaggio and more.

Topics and themes include creativity during isolation, positivity, cli-fi (climate fiction), and empowerment as well as sheer fun and games. Readers of all ages can pay what they want for the anthology with a suggested donation of $9.99.

The Insider Art project is the brainchild of veteran comic book editor, Shelly Bond, who has edited comics for DC Vertigo and IDW. She said: “We couldn’t think of a better way to acknowledge the female and non-binary comic book retailers who are on the front lines every day, spreading the good word about our favorite medium.

“Over 100 female and non-binary comic book creators have donated their time and mad skills to support female and non-binary retailers who have lost incredible amounts of money due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Additionally, the Insider Art campaign will include two fabrics available through Spoonflower – one featuring cat art by noted comic book professionals, and another by a host of young artists.

Comic book fans can also bid for original artwork and collectibles through Insider Art, with proceeds also going directly to the fund for comic book retailers.
