Blu Hope, a new online campaign launched today on World Oceans Day, is aiming to raise awareness of the importance of the world’s oceans, and to encourage action in tackling marine pollution.
Launched by the British High Commission in Malaysia, the Blue Hope campaign, which will run until 12 June, will feature a series of presentations, webinars and videos aimed at everyone from children and adults to business leaders and policymakers.
The live broadcasts will be hosted by the Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) and will feature both Malaysian and international speakers covering topics such as oceans and biodiversity, the protection of mangrove and corals, sustainable tourism and chemical recycling. There will also be daily screenings of the documentary ‘A Plastic Ocean’.
Children are also encouraged to become involved through the Blu Hope ‘Plastic Detective’ initiative – a specially designed activity sheet available which asks children to record their household’s plastic consumption during the week and upload their findings to the campaign website. It is designed to be used from home during the Covid-19 pandemic and will also be distributed in Malaysian schools.
