Radio Garden: Enabling listeners to globetrot the airwaves with access to more than 8000 live radio stations

Globetrot via radio airwaves with Radio Garden, which allows you to listen to thousands of live radio stations worldwide by rotating the globe on a 3D Google Earth interface.

Available via the Radio Garden website or through its iOS and Android Apps, Radio Garden enables users to choose from local radio stations or somewhere further afield. Every green dot represents a city or town. Tap on it to tune into the radio stations broadcasting from that city.

Radio Garden started out in 2016 as an exhibition project commissioned by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision in the context of the research project Transnational Radio Encounters. It was created, designed and developed by Studio Puckey & Moniker.

Moniker said: “By bringing distant voices close, radio connects people and places. From its very beginning, radio signals have crossed borders. Radio makers and listeners have imagined both connecting with distant cultures, as well as re-connecting with people from ‘home’ from thousands of miles away.

“Radio Garden allows listeners to explore processes of broadcasting and hearing identities across the entire globe. From its very beginning, radio signals have crossed borders. Radio makers and listeners have imagined both connecting with distant cultures, as well as re-connecting with people from ‘home’ from thousands of miles away – or using local community radio to make and enrich new homes.”
