Cambodian rice farmers turn guardians of the forest – For years, farmers in the remote northern plains of Cambodia supplemented their income by turning trees into ox carts for sale, expanding their rice fields, or hunting endangered animals, all inside the Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary. But now, Reuters says, rice fields are becoming forest again and species thought lost are returning, under the protection of the same farmers, who have partnered with a social enterprise that pays a premium for their crops.

6. The bold plan that could save South Africa’s leopards – A new approach to conservation is less about walling wildlife off in nature reserves, and more about adapting our world to suit animals, according to BBC Future.

7. Congo elephant poacher jailed for 30 years in landmark case – Congo Republic jailed a notorious poacher for 30 years for ivory trafficking and the attempted murder of park rangers, Wildlife Conservation Society said, hailing the case as a milestone in the fight to hold wildlife criminals to account.
