Gorillaz bring live music in to the homes of their fans worldwide this weekend with a global live stream, which will see a live band stage three performances across three different time zones.
Streamed live and direct from Gorillaz’ London-based studio, Kong Studios, on 12 and 13 December, Song Machine Live is a one-off fully live Gorillaz concert specially created to watch from the comfort of your home and available to stream worldwide.
It will feature live performances of music from Gorillaz’ acclaimed new album Song Machine Season One: Strange Timez, plus favourites from the Gorillaz songbook, in addition to animation by Jamie Hewlett.
The Gorillaz 14-piece live band, led by Damon Albarn, with 2D, Noodle, Murdoc Niccals and Russel Hobbs, also includes The Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso on drums. The band will also be joined by special guest artists.
In an interview with Reuters, Damon Albarn said: “Being in a room where there is no audience, you can really use the trickery and technology that we now have available, which was not available 20 years ago.
“I mean, potentially it’s a whole new thing that no one’s ever seen before; that’s if all the technology works on the day.”
The live performances being offered by Gorillaz showcases a solution, amidst the global pandemic, for musicians and artists to be able to connect with audiences who are at home, while also being able to perform live.
Damon Albarn added: “It’s risky in the sense that there’s so much that can go wrong. But what else can we offer people at this moment in time that’s value for money and also artistically kind of adventurous and retains the spirit of what live music is and what must not be lost?”
Tickets for the Gorillaz’s live performances, which will be streamed via LIVENow, start from £15 for a single performance, £30 for all three performances, and £40 for a virtual party pack.
Tickets for Gorillaz Song Machine Live are available from the LIVENow
