Bangkok, a city that has been criticised for its lack of green spaces, is to welcome a thriving forest.
A “forest park”, known as Benjakitti Forest Park, is set to open next year in the city’s Asoke area. It will a 1.5 kilometre elevated walkway, surrounded by tropical trees and a bicycle track that will connect to Lumpini Park. Along with a variety of plants, the park will also have canals and ponds.

Benjakitti Forest Park is being constructed on 72 hectares of land that was formerly owned by the Thai Tobacco Monopoly.

The park promises to be a green lung for the city and will transform the open land into an area for city residents and visitors in the heart of the capital.

The forest park, which is under construction, is expected to open in 2022 after completion of stages 2 and 3 of the project at a cost of 625million Thai Baht.
