Eco-friendly cleaning projects, packaged in planet-friendly solutions, are becoming the norm now rather than the exception to the rule. Marcel’s Green Soap is another such addition to “green” household cabinets.
The Netherlands-based business sells a range of ecological cleaning products from all-purpose cleaners, laundry detergents, shower gels through to deodorants, each made using a selection of essential oils, at least 97% biodegradable ingredients, and packaged in 100% recycled plastic.
With its range of “sustainable soaps”, the Dutch start-up’s mission is to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable world. Marcel’s Green Soap is the brainchild of Marcel Belt, a single father of three daughters, who started his own company after 25 years working for major brands including Unilever.
The former Unilever employee was inspired to set up the sustainable business when his three daughters told him: “Dad, the things you do aren’t actually that good for the planet and what the world will look like in 10, 20 years.” He said: “One of the reasons I stopped at the big companies is that I no longer wanted to help to bring more and more products, and therefore plastic, to the world.
“Everyone has to clean their house every day, and I think that this can be done a lot more sustainably and positively. I founded Marcel’s Green Soap, to use only biodegradable ingredients and packed in 100% recycled plastic.”
Marcel’s Green Soap is the first brand in Western Europe with bottles made from 100% recycled plastic. By using these bottles, the company claims it collects more plastic than they use, thus reducing the plastic soup.
