Handwoven textile company TexFad are transforming banana waste in Uganda into a tough fibre that can be woven into rugs, place mats, lampshades, and hair extensions.

Uganda is one of the world’s largest banana producer and a world leader in banana consumption. After the harvest, banana stems are usually discarded as waste. TexFad has developed technologies for banana fibre extraction and application into production of high quality banana fibre textiles and handicrafts.
