Bioworkz: Artist uses mandalas and sacred geometry to tell the stories of animals he draws

Some people meditate and for artist Ben Kwok, he draws.

The Southern California-based graphic artist and illustrator, known as Bioworkz, creates intricately detailed drawings of animals, mandalas, sacred geometry and complex patterns.

Ben Kwok’s eye-catching designs are striking, and each animal drawing, ornately decorated with various patterns inspired by mandalas and sacred geometry, invokes that very animal being and tells their own story.

To create his ornate designs, Ben Kwok works mostly with ballpoint pens, felt tip pens, india ink, and coloured pencils.

Taiwan-born Ben Kwok says: “Art has always been a huge part of my life. When I could first use chopsticks, I was already doodling on whatever I could get my hands on. I’m an animal lover at heart, with a passion for art. I knew at an early age that I wanted to work with animals.

“I love complex hyper detailed artwork. To lose myself into the “flow” of drawing is about as good as it gets. I’m very passionate about what I do, that’s why I continue doing it.”
