Jazz duo DOMi & JD Beck release NOT TiGHT on Anderson .Paak’s APESHIT label

Jazz duo DOMi & JD Beck have released their new album ‘NOT TiGHT’, featuring Anderson .Paak, Herbie Hancock, and Thundercat.

The album is the first on Anderson .Paak’s new label APESHIT, in partnership with Blue Note Records.

French keyboard prodigy, DOMi, and JD Beck, a young drummer from Dallas, met in 2018 when they were were both invited to join an ensemble performing at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) trade show and played in a room full of blaring instrumental demos.

DOMi Louna was a teen protegé at Berklee by way of the Paris Conservatory; JD, three years her junior, had gigged since grade school around his hometown, Dallas—first in producer Jah-Born’s band where he duetted with MPC beatmakers and DJs spinning Dilla.

The duo collaborated with label boss Anderson .Paak on the single, ‘TAKE A CHANCE’, which came out ahead of their album release.

DOMi and JD Beck also teamed up with jazz legend, Herbie Hancock, for the track, ‘Moon’. Recalling their time hanging with Herbie Hancock, DOMi said: “Herbie is so funny; he’ll tell you stories for like six hours, and we are never going to be mad at that. He’s a living legend.”

JD added: “But all the stories he [Herbie Hancock] tells have purpose. It’s like when your parents give you advice as a kid and it just doesn’t register, but you get older and you’re like, ‘Holy shit’. There’s a lot that’s been registering for us recently: we finally have an actual song out, we’ve finished an album.”
